Polyoxyethylene Lauryl Ether-10 (Laureth-10) CAS 6540-99-4

Laureth-10 (CAS 6540-99-4), also called Polyoxyethylene (10) Lauryl Ether or C12E10, is an ethoxylated lauryl alcohol distribution with an average of about ten EO units. It is used as a nonionic emulsifying, wetting, dispersing and cleansing surfactant. Confirm nominal EO, hydroxyl value, water, color, physical form and cloud point against the current COA, TDS and SDS.

  • CAS: 6540-99-4
  • Synonyms: Laureth-10, Polyoxyethylene (10) Lauryl Ether, Decaethylene Glycol Monododecyl Ether, C12E10, PEG-10 Lauryl Ether
  • Einecs: Not confirmed; verify supplier SDS
  • Molecular Formula: C₃₂H₆₆O₁₁ for discrete C12E10; commercial grade composition must be confirmed
  • Grade: Specified by nominal EO, hydroxyl value, water, color, physical form and cloud point; see the current TDS and COA.
  • Package: Drums or bulk; confirm container, liner, net weight and handling for your order and destination.

Applications and grade selection

Laureth-10 is evaluated as a nonionic emulsifying, wetting, dispersing or cleansing surfactant. Suitability depends on the exact commercial composition, phase ratio, temperature, electrolyte, pH, co-surfactants and process.

  • Do not substitute Laureth-5 and Laureth-10 solely because both are lauryl alcohol ethoxylates; the different EO level changes hydrophilicity and phase behavior.
  • Compare the current and proposed grades using equivalent test methods, then run emulsion, clarity, viscosity and storage-stability trials.
  • Cosmetic or other regulated use requires documentation for the exact grade and destination market.

Storage and handling

Keep the package closed in a dry, ventilated area within the supplier’s stated temperature range. Physical form can change with temperature; use the exact TDS for warming, homogenization and sampling.

Safety, documentation and procurement

Consult the current SDS for eye and skin protection, ventilation, spill response, transport and disposal. For quotation, provide the required identity, nominal EO, reference COA, application, quantity, package, destination and documentation scope.

For shorter and higher EO lauryl or fatty alcohol ethoxylate grades, compare Laureth-4, AEO-7, and AEO-20 / MOA-20.

FAQ - Technical & Supply Chain

  • Q:

Does Laureth-10 represent one fixed molecular compound?

A: No. Laureth-10 is an ethoxylated lauryl alcohol distribution, and the “10” denotes an average of about ten ethylene-oxide units rather than one discrete molecule. Grade comparison should therefore confirm average EO level, hydroxyl value, water, color, cloud point or solubility method and physical form.
  • Q:

Which grade details should be fixed for cosmetic-use Laureth-10?

A: Specify INCI identity, average EO level, hydroxyl value, water, color, pH, cloud-point or solubility method and physical form. Where required by the destination market, also set limits or documentation for residual ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane, then confirm performance and irritation controls in the finished formulation.
