Polypropylene Glycol 200 (PPG-200) CAS 25322-69-4

Polypropylene Glycol 200 (PPG-200) is a low-molecular-weight polyether polyol distribution with a nominal average molecular weight near 200. Propylene Oxide is the epoxide monomer used in polypropylene-glycol production. It is identified by the polymeric CAS No. 25322-69-4 and EC No. 500-039-8 . PPG-200 is not one pure molecule and should not be represented by a fixed molecular formula or a 99% molecular-purity claim. It is commonly evaluated as a solvent, lubricity component or formulation intermediate. For a higher nominal-molecular-weight grade in the same PPG series, PPG-1000 is a related option; target viscosity and hydroxyl value should be confirmed. Buyers should compare hydroxyl value, viscosity, water, acidity, color and application performance on the current specification and COA.

Application and grade selection

PPG-200 is evaluated as a solvent, lubricity component, formulation aid or reactive intermediate. It should not be described as a conventional nonionic surfactant, and performance claims from PPG-400 or a higher-molecular-weight PPG should not be transferred without testing.

  • For solvent or carrier use, verify solvency, water tolerance, viscosity and compatibility with the active ingredients.
  • For esterification, etherification or other synthesis, control hydroxyl value, water and acidity because they affect stoichiometry and reaction behavior.
  • Food, pharmaceutical or personal-care use requires a specifically supported grade and relevant compliance documentation.

Storage and handling

Keep containers tightly closed and dry to limit moisture uptake and contamination. Store within the supplier’s stated temperature range and follow the SDS for fire precautions, incompatible materials and transport.

Safety and supply documentation

Do not use universal claims that PPG-200 is non-flammable, non-toxic, non-irritating or stable to all oxidizers. Handling, spill response and disposal must follow the current SDS for the exact material.

For quotation, provide hydroxyl-value or reference-grade requirements, application, quantity, destination, package and required COA, TDS and SDS.

FAQ - Technical & Supply Chain

  • Q:

Does PPG 200 mean every molecule has molecular weight 200?

A: No. PPG 200 is a polypropylene-glycol distribution centered around a nominal average molecular mass. The label is a grade target; hydroxyl value, viscosity at stated temperature, water, and acidity are needed to identify a commercial grade.
  • Q:

Can PPG 200 be replaced with PPG 400 or PPG 1000 because they share CAS 25322-69-4?

A: No. These grades share a polymeric CAS but differ in average chain length, hydroxyl equivalent weight, viscosity, and handling. In reactive systems, solvent applications, or uses requiring lubricity, confirm the offered specification and test dosage, mixing, and finished-system behavior.
