Product Description

Industrial applications

Polyester and PET production

Monoethylene glycol (MEG), CAS 107-21-1, is a diol feedstock used with purified terephthalic acid (PTA) in PET manufacture. Applications include polyester fibres, films and packaging resins. Agree the raw-material specification for your polymerisation process before ordering.

Antifreeze and heat-transfer formulations

MEG is used as a raw material in glycol-based industrial fluids. Select the formulation, water quality and corrosion-inhibitor system for the equipment and operating conditions. Raw MEG should not be treated as a ready-to-use inhibited coolant.

Glycol selection

Propylene glycol is a different chemical used in other glycol-based formulations. Triethylene glycol (TEG) is another glycol with a distinct identity and process role. Choose by application and specification; these materials are not interchangeable simply because they share the word “glycol”.

Specification and purchasing

Use an agreed specification for purchasing rather than a generic purity claim. Your enquiry can identify the required assay, water content, colour and any process-sensitive impurity limits. Where limits are specified, state the units and test methods so that the quotation and quality documents use the same basis.

Identity and general physical properties describe the substance. They are not a batch analysis or a guaranteed numerical purchase specification.

Packing and handling

Drums, IBCs and bulk transport are established industry formats for MEG. Tell us your receiving facilities and preferred format; the applicable packing and shipment details will be confirmed with the quotation. The packaging illustration does not specify a net weight.

MEG is hygroscopic. Keep containers closed and avoid moisture or foreign-material contamination. Use the applicable Safety Data Sheet for handling, protective equipment, storage compatibility and disposal requirements.

Quality documents

We can provide a Certificate of Analysis (COA), Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for product evaluation and order documentation. A batch COA should be assessed against the specification agreed for that order.

FAQ - Technical & Supply Chain

  • Q:

Are MEG and ethylene glycol the same chemical?

A: Yes. Monoethylene glycol (MEG), also called ethylene glycol or ethane-1,2-diol, has CAS 107-21-1. It is a different substance from diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol and glycol ethers.
  • Q:

    Is MEG a ready-to-use antifreeze?

A: No. MEG is a raw material used in antifreeze and heat-transfer formulations. The finished fluid requires the appropriate water content, inhibitor package and application specification; raw MEG should not be treated as a ready-to-use coolant.
  • Q:

What information helps you quote bulk MEG?

A: Send us your intended application and approximate quantity. If available, include your target specification, preferred packing and destination; we can discuss the remaining order details with you.
