Product Description

Pyromellitic dianhydride, referred to as homogenic anhydride, is pure white or slightly yellow crystals. Exposure to humid air quickly absorbs moisture from the air and hydrolyzes into homotetracarboxylic acid. Soluble in organic solvents such as dimethyl sulfoxide, dimethylformamide, acetone, etc., insoluble in ether, chloroform and benzene. It is mainly used as a raw material for polyimide, a curing matting agent for epoxy resins and a crosslinking agent for polyester resins.

FAQ - Technical & Supply Chain

  • Q:

Does Pyromellitic Dianhydride (PMDA) correspond to the hydrolyzed acid form or the reactive dianhydride?

A: Pyromellitic Dianhydride (PMDA) is verified under CAS 89-32-7 as the double anhydride form (C10H2O6), distinguishing it from Pyromellitic Acid (PMA) to ensure the anhydrous reactivity required for condensation polymerization into polyimides.
  • Q:

What is the primary functional advantage of using Pyromellitic Dianhydride (PMDA) in epoxy curing applications?

A: Pyromellitic Dianhydride (PMDA) is typically applied as a high-performance cross-linking agent in epoxy powder coatings and molding compounds, where it significantly elevates the glass transition temperature (Tg) and chemical resistance of the final cured product.
