[Uses]

The structure of neocapric acid makes it a unique modifier for coating resins. Its epoxy group is highly reactive and can react with hydroxy, carboxyl and amino groups. The reactivity of its epoxy group allows it to be introduced into acrylics, polyesters and alkyds at room temperature without much side reactions. Polyesters prepared in this way meet the design requirements of narrow molecular distribution and low viscosity. The branched-chain fatty acid structure provides hydrolytic stability and weather resistance to ester groups. The suspended neocapric acid group also reduces resin viscosity and improves pigment wettability and plasticity.

Neocapric acid is often used to modify various coatings. It is used as a reactive diluent for epoxy resins.

Neocapric acid has an acceptable ester taste as a resin thinner

FAQ - Technical & Supply Chain

  • Q:

Are glycidyl neodecanoate and neodecanoic acid glycidyl ester the same substance?

A: Yes. These names refer to the same chemical compound and correspond to CAS 26761-40-0 in industrial and regulatory documentation.
  • Q:

Is neocapric acid glycidyl ester associated with the same CAS number?

A: In industry usage, neocapric acid glycidyl ester is commonly used interchangeably with neodecanoic acid glycidyl ester and is associated with the same CAS number.
  • Q:

Is this material intended for formulated epoxy systems rather than laboratory-only use?

A: It is typically supplied as an industrial ingredient intended for epoxy resin formulation and related processing applications, not as a consumer or laboratory-only reagent.
