Barium Hydroxide Monohydrate CAS 22326‑55‑2

Barium Hydroxide Monohydrate, identifiable by CAS 22326‑55‑2, functions as a dehydrated inorganic base used primarily as a thermal stabilizer in PVC processing and lubricant manufacturing. Chemically defined as Barium Dihydroxide Monohydrate, this white crystalline powder serves as a catalyst in the synthesis of phenol-formaldehyde resins and a key component in complex grease formulations. The substance, often preferred over the octahydrate form for applications requiring lower moisture content, acts as a strong alkaline additive in plastic stabilizers and organic synthesis. We facilitate bulk supply of this industrial alkali with competitive factory pricing, capable of meeting customized specifications for barium content, backed by comprehensive MSDS, TDS, COA documentation.

Product Description

Barium hydroxide is a strong alkali with the chemical formula Ba(OH)2, a white amorphous powdered solid, which is toxic! It is very easy to absorb carbon dioxide from the air to form barium carbonate, with a relative density of 4.50, melting at 350°C, and decomposing at above 600°C. Soluble in chemicalbook water, poorly soluble in ethanol, ether and ketones. The crystal precipitated in aqueous solution is Ba(OH)2·8H2O, which is a colorless monoclinic crystal with a relative density of 2.18 (16 °C) and a melting point of 78 °C, and loses all crystallization water at 780 °C.
Chemical formula: Ba(OH)2
Molecular weight: 171.342
CAS accession number: 17194-00-2
EINECS accession number: 241-234-5
Water solubility: soluble (3.89 g/100 g, 20°C)
Density: 2.18 g/cm³
Appearance: white crystalline powder
Solubility: easily soluble in hot water, small solubility in cold water, slightly soluble in ethanol
Usage: used to make special soaps, pesticides, but also used for hard water softening, beet sugar refining, boiler descaling, glass lubrication, etc.

FAQ - Technical & Supply Chain

  • Q:

Is barium hydroxide monohydrate different from anhydrous barium hydroxide?

A: Yes. The monohydrate contains one molecule of water of crystallization and is treated as a distinct form from anhydrous barium hydroxide, with different handling and specification considerations.
  • Q:

Is this material mainly used as an industrial reagent rather than a finished product?

A: It is commonly used as an inorganic base reagent in industrial processing and synthesis systems rather than as a finished end‑use product.
