1,6-Hexanediol (HDO) CAS 629-11-8

1,6-Hexanediol (HDO), CAS 629-11-8, also known as hexane-1,6-diol or 1,6-hexylene glycol, is a crystalline aliphatic diol used as a building block for polyester and polyurethane resins, polycarbonate diols, radiation-curable coatings and selected epoxy formulations. Isophorone Diisocyanate is a related aliphatic isocyanate for polyurethane systems. It is supplied as flakes or molten material according to processing needs. COA, TDS and SDS support agreement of purity, moisture, colour, supply form and packaging.

Product Description

Product Introduction

1,6-Hexanediol (HDO) (CAS 629-11-8) is a crystalline aliphatic diol for polyester and polyurethane resin manufacture. The listed material is an industrial intermediate for coating, adhesive and reactive-resin production; it is not a finished polyurethane, epoxy or formulated curing agent.

Applications

  • Polyester and polyurethane resins for industrial coatings
  • Urethane adhesive and elastomer manufacturing routes
  • Radiation-curable resin and functional-intermediate production
  • Reactive thinner use in selected epoxy formulation systems

Grade and Documentation

For an HDO order, the agreed grade is matched to the resin route and the required purity, water, colour and melting-range controls. The physical form and packaging are confirmed for the intended handling process. A batch COA, together with the relevant TDS and SDS, is available for the quoted 1,6-Hexanediol material.

For other diol intermediate pages used in resin, polyurethane or formulation systems, compare 1,2-Hexanediol, 1,5-Pentanediol, and 1,3-Propanediol.

FAQ - Technical & Supply Chain

  • Q:

Is 1,6-Hexanediol the same as 1,4-Butanediol or 1,2-Hexanediol?

A: No. These are different diols with different chain structures and hydroxyl-group positions. The required product should be named by its full chemical identity and matched to the specified resin chemistry, not selected by a shortened diol name.
  • Q:

Is HDO used as a finished coating or adhesive?

A: No. 1,6-Hexanediol is a reactive diol used during resin or oligomer manufacture. The resulting polyester, polyurethane, UV-curable or epoxy system is then formulated for its intended industrial application.
  • Q:

Which HDO supply form should be specified before production?

A: Specify flakes or molten material, then match purity, moisture, colour, melting behaviour, package and receiving-process temperature. The batch COA, TDS and SDS should correspond to the agreed form before processing begins.
