Isophorone Diisocyanate (IPDI) CAS 4098-71-9

Isophorone Diisocyanate (IPDI), CAS 4098-71-9, is a cycloaliphatic aliphatic diisocyanate monomer for polyurethane coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers. Commonly called IPDI, it provides two reactive isocyanate groups for polyurethane systems and is selected where aliphatic chemistry is required. 1,6-Hexanediol is a related diol component for aliphatic polyurethane systems. The industrial monomer grade is specified by NCO content, purity, color and hydrolysable-chloride limits. Batch COA, TDS and SDS can be matched to the agreed packaging and production application.

Product Description

Product Introduction

Isophorone Diisocyanate (IPDI) (CAS 4098-71-9) is a cycloaliphatic diisocyanate raw material for light-stable polyurethane resins and crosslinker intermediates. The listed material is monomeric IPDI for industrial formulation and resin manufacture; it is not an IPDI trimer, prepolymer or finished polyurethane hardener.

Applications

  • Polyurethane coatings, including durable industrial coating resin routes
  • Urethane adhesive and sealant prepolymer manufacture
  • Polyurethane dispersions and urethane-acrylate resin systems
  • Elastomer, cast-resin and specialized crosslinker production

Material Scope and Documentation

The order specification confirms monomeric IPDI identity rather than an IPDI derivative, then the agreed NCO content, colour and applicable purity or moisture controls. The material is for industrial processing and the handling requirements follow the supplied SDS. A batch COA and the relevant TDS are available for the quoted grade, with packaging and quantity selected for the specified production route.

FAQ - Technical & Supply Chain

  • Q:

Is Isophorone Diisocyanate (IPDI) interchangeable with TDI, HDI or H12MDI?

A: No. These diisocyanates have different structures and formulation behavior. IPDI, CAS 4098-71-9, should be specified separately from TDI, HDI and H12MDI; replacing one with another can change the intended polyurethane system.
  • Q:

Is IPDI a finished polyurethane coating or adhesive?

A: No. IPDI is a reactive monomer raw material. It is combined with selected polyols, prepolymers or other formulation components to make polyurethane coatings, adhesives, sealants or elastomers; the final product is defined by the complete formulation.
  • Q:

Which IPDI values should be confirmed before production use?

A: Confirm NCO content, assay, color, hydrolysable-chlorine limit, viscosity, packaging and any moisture-control requirements. The batch COA, product TDS and SDS should be reviewed against the agreed monomer grade and the intended polyurethane process.
