Calcium Nitrite CAS 13780-06-8

Calcium Nitrite , CAS 13780-06-8 and EC 237-424-2 , is the inorganic salt Ca(NO2)2 with molecular weight 132.09 g/mol. Commercial material may be offered as a solid or as an aqueous solution, so concentration, active-content basis, density and impurity limits must be stated before prices or dosages are compared. Calcium Nitrite is used in selected corrosion-inhibition, construction and chemical-process applications, but performance depends on formulation, substrate, chloride exposure and regulatory requirements.

Hazard characterOxidizing nitrite salt requiring segregation, ingestion controls and aquatic-release management under the current SDS

Applications and grade selection

Calcium Nitrite is used in selected reinforced-concrete corrosion-inhibitor systems, cement formulations and industrial chemical processes that require a soluble nitrite source. The appropriate addition rate cannot be set from the CAS number alone; it depends on active concentration, cement system, chloride exposure, compatibility, cure requirements and local standards.

  • State solid or solution form and compare offers on the same anhydrous Ca(NO₂)₂ or agreed active-content basis.
  • Define nitrate, chloride, insolubles, pH, density and any metals that affect construction or process performance.
  • Run compatibility and performance trials using the actual cement, admixture or process formulation.

Storage and handling

Store the solid in sealed moisture-protective packaging or the solution in a compatible closed tank or container. Segregate from combustible materials, reducing agents, acids and other incompatibles according to the current SDS.

Safety, documentation and procurement

Calcium Nitrite can act as an oxidizer and may be harmful if swallowed. Use suitable personal protection, spill containment and environmental controls. Procurement should specify form, concentration, application, quantity, package, destination and compliance documents.

FAQ - Technical & Supply Chain

  • Q:

Can Calcium Nitrite CAS 13780-06-8 be substituted by a hydrated grade on the same weight basis?

A: Not without recalculation. Water of crystallization or absorbed moisture changes the active Ca(NO2)2 delivered per kilogram. Confirm whether the quoted assay is on an as-is or dry basis, together with moisture, hydration state and the calculation used for process dosing before comparing offers.
  • Q:

Is solid Calcium Nitrite directly comparable with a Calcium Nitrite solution?

A: No. Solid grades and aqueous solutions must be compared on active Ca(NO2)2 content, not total shipment weight. For a solution, define concentration, density and insolubles; for a solid, define assay, moisture and dissolution behavior. Packaging and freight calculations should use the actual offered form.
  • Q:

Which impurities should be reviewed for industrial Calcium Nitrite?

A: The specification should at least identify calcium nitrite assay, calcium nitrate, moisture and water-insoluble matter. Add chloride, alkalinity or other limits when the intended concrete, corrosion-control or process specification requires them. Compare supplier offers only after the test methods and reporting basis are aligned.
