2-Butoxyethanol (Butyl Glycol) CAS 111-76-2

2-Butoxyethanol (Butyl Glycol) CAS 111-76-2, also known as Ethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether or EGBE, is a glycol ether coupling solvent for waterborne coatings and industrial cleaners. DPM (Dipropylene Glycol Monomethyl Ether) is a related slower-evaporating glycol ether option. For an acetate-ester form of the same butyl glycol backbone, Butyl Glycol Acetate is a related solvent to compare by evaporation profile and coating-system requirements.

186 kg drum and IBC options are available; COA, TDS and SDS apply to the offered grade.

Product Description

Product Introduction

2-Butoxyethanol (CAS 111-76-2), also called Butyl Glycol, EGBE or ethylene glycol monobutyl ether, is supplied as a glycol-ether coupling solvent for waterborne coatings, industrial cleaners and inks. We confirm this CAS and product identity before quotation; it is not the same material as butyldiglycol / Butyl CARBITOL (CAS 112-34-5).

Applications

  • Waterborne paints and coatings requiring a compatible glycol-ether co-solvent.
  • Industrial cleaners, degreasers, wax strippers and metal-cleaning formulations.
  • Printing inks, surface coatings, lacquers, varnishes and selected silicone-caulk systems.
  • Industrial process and chemical-intermediate uses specifying 2-butoxyethanol.

Grade and Supply Details

We confirm the required purity, colour, water, acidity, peroxide or inhibitor requirement, relevant impurities and stated test method for the intended formulation. 2-Butoxyethanol is normally offered as a clear liquid in 180 kg or 200 kg drums, IBCs or bulk arrangements. A batch COA, with the applicable TDS and SDS, is available for the offered material.

FAQ - Technical & Supply Chain

  • Q:

Are 2-Butoxyethanol, Butyl Glycol and EGBE the same material?

A: They are common names for ethylene glycol monobutyl ether, CAS 111-76-2. Do not confuse it with 2-butoxyethyl acetate, CAS 112-07-2, or diethylene glycol monobutyl ether, CAS 112-34-5, which are different glycol ethers.
  • Q:

What role does 2-Butoxyethanol serve in waterborne formulations?

A: It is commonly used as a coupling solvent in waterborne coatings and cleaning formulations. Its use level should match the resin, water, surfactant and drying requirements; it should not be treated as a universal drop-in solvent.
  • Q:

Which release values should be confirmed for 2-Butoxyethanol?

A: Confirm the agreed assay, water, colour, acidity and distillation data on the batch COA. Target limits should match the formulation’s water tolerance, colour sensitivity and processing controls.
