Rubber Accelerator MBTS (DM) CAS 120-78-5

Rubber Accelerator MBTS (DM) CAS 120-78-5, also known as MBTS, DM or 2,2′-Dithiobis(benzothiazole), is a thiazole rubber accelerator for sulphur-vulcanised natural and synthetic rubber. CBS is a related sulfenamide accelerator selected where delayed-action cure behavior is needed.

Powder and granule grades are supplied in PE-lined 25 kg bags; COA, TDS and SDS are available for the offered grade.

Product Description

Product Introduction

Rubber Accelerator MBTS (DM) (CAS 120-78-5), dibenzothiazole disulfide, is supplied as a thiazole accelerator for natural-rubber and synthetic-rubber compounds. We offer MBTS for approved sulphur-vulcanisation systems where a moderately fast, flat cure profile is specified. Powder, oiled-powder and granule grades are quoted separately because their handling and test limits are not identical.

Applications

  • Tires, tubes and technical rubber goods using an MBTS/DM accelerator system.
  • Natural-rubber, SBR, NBR, BR and other compatible synthetic-rubber compound manufacture.
  • Rubber belts, hoses, footwear, rubberised fabrics and moulded goods requiring MBTS.
  • Polychloroprene formulations where MBTS is specified as a plasticiser or retarder.

Grade and Supply Details

We confirm the selected form, initial melting point, heating loss, ash, sieve residue, free-MBT limit and stated test method against the compound specification. MBTS is normally offered as white-to-light-yellow powder or granules in 20 kg or 25 kg lined bags. A batch COA, with the applicable TDS and SDS, is available for the offered material.

FAQ - Technical & Supply Chain

  • Q:

Are MBTS and DM the same rubber accelerator?

A: MBTS and DM are common names for 2,2′-Dithiobis(benzothiazole), CAS 120-78-5. Confirm the offered grade and physical form because powder and granule choices may be made differently for a specific rubber-compounding line.
  • Q:

How does MBTS differ from a sulfenamide accelerator such as CBS?

A: MBTS is a thiazole accelerator with a different cure profile from sulfenamide accelerators. It should not be substituted automatically; confirm the target cure behaviour, scorch safety and the full accelerator package for the existing formulation.
  • Q:

Which MBTS release values should be checked?

A: Confirm the agreed initial melting point, loss on drying and ash. For the selected powder or granule grade, sieve residue or particle-size limits should also match the compounding and feeding requirement.
