Product Description

Tetrahydrolinalool (THL) CAS 78-69-3 is a saturated terpene alcohol, also known as 3,7-dimethyloctan-3-ol, with the formula C₁₀H₂₂O and EINECS 201-133-9.

Synonyms: 3,7-Dimethyloctan-3-ol; Tetrahydro Linalool; Linalool tetrahydride; THL; 3,7-Dimethyl-3-octanol.

CAS: 78-69-3.

Molecular formula: C₁₀H₂₂O.

It is a clear, colorless fragrance ingredient with a fresh citrus-lime, floral and slightly woody-herbal odor.

Tetrahydrolinalool is the tetrahydride derivative of linalool, with its double bonds hydrogenated.

That saturated structure gives it much higher resistance to oxidation and color change than linalool.

It is a better choice for aggressive functional products such as detergents and bleach-containing cleaners.

It is used in fine perfumes, colognes, body care, shampoos, deodorants, air fresheners, fabric softeners and laundry detergents.

It also acts as a building block in the synthesis of complex esters and specialized industrial surfactants.

The typical purity (GC) is about 99.0% or higher, with a relative density of about 0.823-0.829 and refractive index about 1.431-1.435.

The flash point is about 77.0 °C, and it is soluble in 3 volumes of 60% alcohol.

Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from heat and open flames, in original airtight containers.

Protect from heat and ignition sources, and keep containers closed when not in use.

Confirm appearance, purity, relative density, refractive index, acid value and grade as required.

Use suitable eye and skin protection during handling, and wash skin contact with soap and water.

Confirm packaging with the requested quantity and destination requirements.

FAQ - Technical & Supply Chain

  • Q:

    What is Tetrahydrolinalool CAS 78-69-3?

A: Tetrahydrolinalool, also known as THL or 3,7-dimethyloctan-3-ol, is a saturated terpene alcohol with the molecular formula C10H22O and molecular weight about 158.28 g/mol. It is a clear, colorless fragrance ingredient with a fresh citrus-lime, floral, and slightly woody-herbal odor.
  • Q:

How does Tetrahydrolinalool compare with linalool in fragrance stability?

A: Tetrahydrolinalool is the tetrahydride derivative of linalool, so its double bonds have been hydrogenated. That saturated structure gives it much higher resistance to oxidation and color change, making it a better choice for aggressive functional products such as detergents and bleach-containing cleaners.
  • Q:

Which fragrance and household applications use Tetrahydrolinalool?

A: It is used in fine perfumes, colognes, body care, shampoos, deodorants, air fresheners, fabric softeners, laundry detergents, and industrial or household cleaners. It contributes freshness and lift while remaining stable in formulations where unsaturated linalool would degrade.
  • Q:

What purity, appearance, and storage conditions are typical for this product?

A: The commercial product is typically a clear, colorless liquid with minimum 97% purity by GC. It should be kept tightly closed in a cool, dry area away from heat and ignition sources; a shelf life of 24 months or longer is common when storage conditions are appropriate.
