Sodium Lignosulfonate, CAS 8061-51-6, is also known as lignosulfonate sodium salt or lignin sulfonate. It is a water-soluble anionic polymer derived from wood pulp processing, used as a dispersant, surfactant and concrete-admixture water reducer. Grades are defined by feedstock, processing and application performance, so confirm the intended use and specification before ordering.

Product Description
Uses and characteristics: Sodium lignosulfonate is a water-reducing admixture produced from sulfite pulping liquor, with medium molecular weight and low reducing-sugar content. It is used in concrete admixtures with low dosage, low air content and good cement compatibility, and can be compounded with naphthalene-based superplasticizers without causing separation of the resulting liquid admixture.
a) Water demand can be reduced by more than 14%.
b) Concrete workability is significantly improved.
c) Early cement hydration heat can be greatly reduced.
d) It contains no chloride salts and does not corrode steel reinforcement.
e) It contains no alkali-reactive substances.
Main properties: a) The recommended dosage in concrete is 0.2%–0.6% by weight of cement; the user should determine the dosage by testing. b) It can be supplied and used as a liquid. c) It compounds well with naphthalene-based superplasticizers; the dosage and ratio should be determined by the user after testing, according to the cement type, aggregate conditions and the specific naphthalene-based superplasticizer used.
Precautions: a) Control the dosage strictly; too little gives a weak effect, while overdosing can affect early strength. b) At temperatures below 5 °C, it is generally not suitable to be used alone in ordinary concrete work. c) Determine the use parameters by testing before use.

FAQ - Technical & Supply Chain
-
Q:
Is Sodium Lignosulfonate CAS 8061-51-6 a single 99% compound?
A: No. Sodium lignosulfonate is a variable lignin-derived anionic polymer mixture, not a discrete molecule with one fixed formula or a meaningful universal 99% purity. Commercial grades are defined by feedstock, processing and application performance. -
Q:
What is Sodium Lignosulfonate used for?
A: It is used mainly as a concrete admixture, water reducer or dispersant, and can be compounded with other superplasticizers. The intended concrete mix, dosage and cement compatibility should be confirmed because performance varies with cement chemistry. -
Q:
Which specifications should be agreed for Sodium Lignosulfonate powder?
A: Confirm moisture or dry matter, pH at the stated concentration, lignosulfonate content or reporting basis, reducing sugars, water-insoluble matter, ash, sodium or sulfate where relevant, bulk density and particle size with the methods. -
Q:
Should a concrete trial be completed before selecting a Sodium Lignosulfonate grade?
A: Yes. Confirm the target cement, dosage range, water reduction, setting-time tolerance, slump retention and air response in a representative mix. Performance varies with cement chemistry and with reducing-sugar and molecular-distribution differences. -
Q:
How is Sodium Lignosulfonate commonly supplied and packaged?
A: Sodium lignosulfonate can be supplied as a brown powder or liquid depending on the application. Powder grades are usually packed in moisture-resistant lined bags or bulk bags, while liquid grades are supplied in drums or bulk containers. Confirm physical form, dry-matter or moisture, net weight and packaging before shipment.
