1,4-Cyclohexanedimethanol CAS 105-08-8

1,4-Cyclohexanedimethanol (CAS 105-08-8) is a cycloaliphatic glycol and high-molecular-weight diol primarily utilized as a specialized monomer for modifying the backbone of polyester resins (such as PETG and PCT) to enhance clarity and toughness. This 1,4-Bis(hydroxymethyl)cyclohexane compound functions as a chain extender that disrupts polymer crystallization in Cyclohexane-1,4-dimethanol derived formulations, thereby improving the impact resistance, hydrolytic stability, and processability of transparent engineering plastics and high-performance coil coatings. To support industrial-scale requirements, we provide bulk supply with competitive factory pricing and ensure rigorous quality control through customized specifications alongside standard technical documentation, including MSDS, TDS, COA.

FAQ - Technical & Supply Chain

  • Q:

Is 1,4-Cyclohexanedimethanol (CAS 105-08-8) supplied as a specific isomer or a mixture?

A: Industrial supply is typically a controlled mixture of cis- and trans-isomers (C8H16O2) designed to provide the optimal melting point range and reactivity for polymerization processes.
  • Q:

What is the primary benefit of adding CHDM to polyethylene terephthalate (PET) synthesis?

A: It acts as a glycol modifier that prevents crystallization, converting standard PET into amorphous PETG, which offers superior clarity, thermoforming capabilities, and impact strength.
